Our Mission:

The mission of Iowa Simulation Solutions is to provide the orthopaedic community with the best platform for training and assessing wire navigation skills. Iowa Simulation Solutions uses patented technology to provide superior hands-on training for orthopedic surgeons to create the best possible outcomes for patients. Surgeons can learn their skills in a safe environment while hospitals benefit from increased operating room efficiency.

Steven Long, PhD:

Dr. Long is the youngest member of the team at Iowa Simulation Solutions. He recently completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering where his research focused on developing and implementing the simulator technology. Steven’s roles and responsibilities in the company going forward will be to develop strategic partnerships and help advance the mission of Iowa Simulation Solutions and bring wire navigation training to the orthopaedic community.

Geb Thomas, PhD:

Dr. Thomas brings many different skill sets to the team here at ISS. While his background is in Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Dr. Thomas collaborates with researchers in many different areas including orthopaedics, bike simulation, noise monitoring, and dust particle sensing. His technical prowess is an invaluable skill that allows the team to develop new and exciting products! 

Don Anderson, PhD:

Dr. Anderson brings a wealth of orthopaedic and general biomedical knowledge to the ISS team. He leads a busy life as Director of the Orthopaedic Biomechanics Laboratory at the University of Iowa, but his strategic mind helps the team navigate the waters of the orthopaedic industry. Dr. Anderson also has experience from a previous start-up company that helps the team make the right decisions at the right time.

Matt Karam, MD: 

We are very excited to announce that Dr. Matt Karam has joined our team. Dr. Karam currently serves as the Vice-Chair for Education and is the Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program director in the department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation at the University of Iowa. He brings valuable insight to the group as an educator and an orthopaedic surgeon. Dr. Karam will help direct the development of new simulator content as well as outreach to better understand our customers wants and needs.
