Hip Navigator

Provide your residents with a radiation free environment for practicing their hip wire navigation skills. This product allows students to place a guide wire in a Sawbones surrogate femur with the assistance of computer generated fluoroscopic images. Both AP and Lateral images are generated to give your residents the information they need to accurately place the wire and improve their surgical technique.

Proximal Femur

The Hip Navigator uses a custom made Sawbones femur to allow residents to practice placing a guide wire in bone. The femur is made with varying levels of dense foam so that users can distinguish the difference between cortical and cancelous bone. More information regarding this can be found here.

Soft Tissue

The proximal femur is housed in a soft tissue sleeve. The soft tissue sleeve hides the geometry of the femur from the user so that he or she must rely on the virtual AP and Lateral images generated with the Hip Navigator. A small incision has been made in the tissue to guide in the placement of the wire. More information regarding this can be found here
